April 17, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

The plot has a significant slope over most of its surface, with a difference in elevation between the front of the road (north boundary) and the back (south boundary) of approximately 17 meters. Access is through Atzavara Street, at the highest point of the plot (approx. elevation 180). The project includes having meters at street level (northeast corner). The house consists of a main volume (entrance to the house and night area), under which is the day area, fully connected and projected towards the outside (terrace and views), where the pool is located. The volume that forms the night area is understood as a rocky mass that shelters the main space of the house.

The house is located on an urban lot with 525m² of surface area, located in Marina Ilha Verde (Pelotas-RS), bathed by Arroio Pelotas and other artificial channels. The building is located along the south side of the land, which creates a side patio that runs the entire length of the house. On the ground floor, the organization is based on exposed concrete plans that direct the views, guarantee the privacy of the social area and protect the service sector. The side access leads residents through an internal courtyard. The other enclosures on the ground floor are transparent, ensuring views of the internal courtyard, other external areas and the canal at the end of the lot.

Brickkiln Lane Innovation / MAT Office

April 14, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

This Brick Kiln is located in a corner of the former Beijing Brick and Tile Factory, Xisanqi Street, Beijing. From the 1950s to the 1970s, the Brick and Tile Factory supplied a large number of black bricks and clay bricks to the projects from the State Council and the “Top Ten Buildings in Beijing”, contributing to the development of the capital city. With the development of the city and the transformation of location functions, when the brick factory was closed in 2012, mature communities with residences, innovative technology parks, and primary and secondary schools had been established around it, and the value of the urban area had been greatly improved. In addition, due to its age and disrepair for a long time, the brick kiln building has been structurally identified as a dangerous building that is on the verge of collapse, and in urgent need of overall renovation. Therefore, how to fully preserve the external form and historical memory of the original brick kiln, while also leveraging its location advantages, adapting to current usage requirements, and supplementing the cultural, creative, and leisure functions required for urban life has become a key point in this renovation.

The extension to the Cologne-Lindweiler primary school, an open all-day school, was built in nine months using modular timber construction. Nine classes can now be accommodated at this location. The compact two-story structure with a light-colored facing brick façade and elongated wood-aluminum window elements responds to the existing school building with a calm and clear geometry.

Compact House / Rahul Pudale Design

April 12, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

In the heart of the bustling old city, amidst the vibrant chaos of typical Indian streets, lies a plot measuring a mere 6 meters in width by 9 meters in depth. This small parcel of land, tucked away in the market area, presented a unique challenge and opportunity to weave a narrative of community living amidst the cacophony of urban life. The client, faced with the dilemma of moving away from the old city to escape the chaos, found themselves drawn to the idea of fostering community within this dense urban fabric. The challenge presented was formidable: to utilize a compact site effectively, maximize natural light, accommodate commercial spaces on the ground floor, and provide comfortable residences above.

Norrvikens Sports Center / APPELL arkitektkontor

April 12, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

This project consists of three small lakeside buildings for the canoe and tour skating clubs of Sollentuna, a municipality just north of Stockholm. The buildings uphold the long-standing Swedish tradition of public buildings providing service and accessibility to nature and the outdoors. The project’s ambition has been to create a meeting place. People should be able to stop by on their Sunday walk and have a coffee in the café. School classes should be able to have a gym class here. Athletes should have good facilities, both elite and amateurs.

The project is composed of a series of detached rooms (of about 6 Tatami mats) connecting to form apartments inside a post and beam structure. Each apartment in the building was designed individually with consideration of the site’s conditions, orientation, and floor level. As a result, none of the apartments and floors are identical.

Sótão House / Estúdio Vinicius Macêdo

April 10, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

Casa Sótão (Attic House) is located in the state of Ceará, in the Serra de Guaramiranga (Guaramiranga Mountains). This region is characterized by a large mass of Atlantic Forest vegetation, offering a unique view. The house design was created to integrate with its natural landscape, amplifying the connection between human living and its surroundings. The site has steep topography, which encourages the design to develop over two floors and an attic. This variation provides different perspectives of the surroundings: the ground floor connects intimately with the tree trunks, the upper floor offers views of the treetops, and the attic provides a stunning view over them.

Nordic Educational and Sports Center of la Feclaz / Brenas Doucerain Architectes

April 10, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

Architectural description. Nestled on the plateau of Revard at 1400 meters above sea level, the center is situated in a clearing, occupied by cross-country ski trails in winter and pastures in summer. Simple and monolithic, the choice of a compact volume based on a square figure was imposed. Topped with a large three-pitched roof and a half-hipped roof on the side facing the ski slopes, the building is protected from the weather by wide roof overhangs, inspired by those of the Bauges barns, where wooden struts allow for greater cantilevers and low eaves minimize the impact of the structure on the scale of pedestrians or skiers.
